John Cannon (1820 – 1882)

John Cannon (1820 – 1882) Cannon was the steamboat captain of the Robert E. Lee when she won her fabled 1870 Mississippi River race with the Natchez from New Orleans to St. Louis. This escapade made him one of the most famous men in America at that time. His residence still stands at 420 Ann Street in Frankfort.
